Recovering Your Identity: Claiming Your God-Given Identity

The last 2 days, I’ve been taking part in Married and Young’s #BreakTheCycle challenge on Facebook.

If you haven’t joined it, it is not too late.

What a powerful couple of days it has been.

This challenge has motivated me to start working towards recovering my identity.

What is identity? it is:

“who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world and the characteristics that define you” (Source).

I am praying and believing that not only will my damaging cycles be broken, but that my life be changed.

I’m also believing that the lives of others who are listening will be changed as well.

I would like for you to join me while I’m working on recovering my identity and do what you need to do to recover yours also.

I have an in-depth Bible Study on Identity which will be a great resource for you as you strive to recover your identity.

It looks at our identity according to God and his word. Check it out now.

This post was inspired by Ryan Lestrange’s message on identity during the #BreakTheCycle challenge day 1.

I hope that the advice shared in this post will help you as work on recovering your identity.

4 Facts About Your Identity:

The power to see yourself as God sees you is already inside of you.

“I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, emphasis mine).

So you can see yourself with the eyes of Christ.

5 Steps to Recovering Your God Given Identity

Alright, you may be asking yourself

“how do I recover a healthy identity”?

Well, I’d like to share with you 5 steps to recovering your God given identity.

  • The Five Steps to Recover Your Identity
  1. Repent-Repent means to turn from or change thoughts on. Quit partnering with false identities. Quit listening to the devil and those around you who would speak negatively of you. Know that whoever the devil says you are, you are not. Remind yourself that the devil is a liar, the father of all lies.
  2. Redefine-Redefine who you are. How do you redefine your identity? Read the Bible and find out who God says you are. As you read the word, ask God to help you see yourself the way that he sees you (the way he sees you is the truth of who you are, nothing else).
  3. Renovate- Do the work, forget the false identities you’ve held on to for so long, change things like the people you hang out with, the things you listen to, etc…
  4. Expel-break the chains of darkness through evaluations of the lies you hear and the truth of God’s word and of course, through deliverance brought about by prayer.
  5. Resist. The Bible says to “resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Commit to believing the truth about who you are and not accepting any false identity.

Conclusion

Feel free to listen to the song below and as you’re listening, read Philippians 1:6.

Ask the Lord to help you recognize your true identity because he is faithful and he will do it!

I am trusting and believing with you for a change in how you perceive yourself (your identity).

Also, if you would like to know why knowing who you are is important and or are interested in learning more about who you are (your identity) be sure to check out part one of my five part Bible Study on your identity and knowing who you are and what you were made for.

Sharing is caring!
