Spiritual Truths from a Salon Chair

A cut a color and Christ 6 spiritual truths learned from a salon visit Miranda rejoice blog

The other day, I went to see my friend Helena at her new salon because she is the only one I trust to fix me up.

I had decided it was time to make a change. I’ve always been a brunette but I decided I would have her put highlights in my hair.

While getting everything done, I learned some valuable spiritual truths.

Read on to discover 6 valuable truths the Holy Spirit revealed to me while I was getting fixed up.

One of the spiritual truths from the salon-The Pain is Worth It.

If you have never had your eyebrows done, you will not understand what I am about to say.

If you have, you know it can be uncomfortable and almost painful at times.

As my stylist worked to shape my brows, the Holy Spirit reminded me that Jesus said he will “not cause pain without allowing something new to come forth” (Isaiah 66:9).

The same way that I went through an uncomfortable process for a new look, we will go through difficult times.

These difficult times will help us become something new.

The Bible assures us that all things work together for good (Romans 8:28) so as a result, everything we go through will open the door for something better to come along.

Since we know greater is coming, we can trust God during difficult times.

Praise the Lord for that!

number two of several spiritual truths from the salon visit-Be Patient, Good Things Take Time

After the brows, Helena spent time carefully weaving in each highlight.

After the highlights were placed, we had to wait for quite a while.

The Holy Spirit used the time it took to wait for the highlights to develop to remind me that good things take time.

Patience is a fruit of the spirit and it is something that we all need to have.

The Bible says that we are to be patient in the midst of trouble (see Romans 12:12), that we are to wait in patience for God to save us, and it is best that we learn patience while we are young (See Lamentations 3:25-27).

Things will not always happen when we want them to. Sometimes, we will have to wait for God to move but I can assure you, God will always move.

One of the most important spiritual truths I learned at the salon-Let Your Light Shine

You could see the highlights woven through my hair. The light pieces of hair in the midst of my dark ones were a reminder that though this world is dark, God still shines through.

We can be a light in the dark world just as God is.

Leading others to Jesus will bring hope to those in the midst of the darkness.

Highlights reminded me that Jesus is the light of the world.

Jesus called himself the “light of the world” and he promised that if we walk with him, we will not walk in darkness but will have the “light of life” (see John 8:12).

When Jesus was born, it was said that “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the shadow of death, a light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16).

John 1:5 says that “the light shines in darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”. 1

John 1:5 says that God is light and there is NO DARKNESS IN HIM AT ALL (emphasis mine).

God has called us out of darkness and into his marvelous light “(1 Peter 2:9). Again if we follow the Lord and let his light shine in us, we can bring hope into the darkness.

Washed by the Blood of Jesus Christ

After my highlights were complete, my friend washed and shampooed my hair.

What did that remind me of you ask? Of course it reminded me of the blood of Jesus.

It is Christ’s blood that cleanses us from sin (John 1:7).

Though my sins were as scarlet, God washed them white as snow (see Isaiah 1:18).

Lay Aside the Weight that Burdens You

After a good wash, the time came for a hair cut.

I have always been one to get headaches if I let my hair get too long because of the weight of my hair.

If my hair being longer can cause headaches, how much more trouble is caused by carrying the weight of the world which drags us down easily?

The Bible urges us to “Lay aside every weight and sin that easily besets us” (Hebrews 12:1).

Once we cast our cares on Jesus because he cares for us (see 1 Peter 5:7) , pick up his light burden (see Matthew 11:30), and run our race with patience, we will be able to have life and enjoy it more abundantly which has always been God’s plan (see John 10:10).

God is interested in the little details

Even though I lost some hair by a haircut, God still knows the number of hairs on my head (Luke 12:7).

I can assure you that he is just as interested in you and what’s going on in your life, as he is with me and the details of my life.

He has numbered your hairs and he is keeping every one of your tears in a bottle (Psalm 56:8).

He cares so much for you, dear one. No detail of you is too big or too small. Talk to him about what is going on, he longs to hear about it!

Conclusion

I know that some of you may be struggling right now. You might be going through things you never dreamed you would be having to face.

I can’t tell you that I know what you are going through because I don’t. Everyone has their own unique experiences.

I know that greater things are coming because God has saved you, cleaned you, and given you light.

The darkness you are in cannot overcome the light because “Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world”.

God cares about you more than you will ever know. God is always listening, and he is a very present help in your time of trouble (see Psalm 46:1).

Cling to the Lord and in the power of his might and you will be victorious.

I firmly believe this.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for the truths that you have shown us. Father, thank you that you will not allow us to go through difficult times without making a way for something new to come out of it.

Thank you that no matter how dark it may seem, the darkness cannot and will not overtake us for you have given us light.

I know you that you care about us and I appreciate that. Thank you for caring about every detail of our lives no matter how big or how small they may seem.

Thanks for always listening to us, and thank you for being a present help in the midst of our troubles.

Thank you that in you and through you we have the victory.

God, I pray for the person reading this right now. I pray that you would give them peace, strength, and hope in whatever it is that they are facing.

I ask all of this in your precious name,

Amen.
