5 Ways to Get Into the Christmas Spirit

The Christmas season is upon us. If you’re like me, Christmas has come way too fast this year. It just does not seem like it should be time to celebrate this holiday season. Every year, Christmas seems to come faster and it becomes harder to get into the Christmas spirit (especially if you are a single lady, can I get an amen?!). Because I know that the struggle to celebrate is real, I put together this list of ways to get into the Christmas Spirit.

Ways to Get Into the Christmas Spirit

Help Someone Else

I know that at work I see first hand how difficult this holiday season can be for others. Many are poor and cannot afford to eat much less celebrate the Christmas season. Still others do not have family that they can celebrate with. If you are finding it difficult to get into the spirit of Christmas this year, take a moment to do something for someone else. Bake a plate of cookies for your widowed neighbor. Give a blessings bag to that guy asking for money on the street corner. Volunteer to do music or crafts at your local nursing home. Basically, use what talents you possess to help someone else this Christmas season.

Help Yourself!

Watch a Good Christmas Movie

As a 25 year old single woman longing to meet her future spouse, I will cry every time I watch a Hallmark Christmas movie. To me, these movies provide unrealistic pictures of love and marriage. For this reason, they are not my choice of entertainment to get me into the Christmas Spirit. To help get me into the Christmas Spirit each year, I enjoy watching Christmas comedies such as Jim Carrey’s the Grinch, Christmas with the Kranks, or Unaccompanied Minors. Maybe you do like Hallmark movies and if that’s the case, then by all means, sit down and watch them. Bottom line, find a good Christmas themed movie, fix a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy the show!

Deck the Halls!

Whether you like it or not, Christmas is here. That means it can be a good time to get crafty. Decorate your house inside and out, and turn it into a winter wonderland. Maybe you don’t have the money to purchase Christmas decorations this year and that’s alright. There are plenty of DIY Christmas decoration ideas to be found on Pinterest that can be done for pennies and may even be free!

Turn on the Tunes!

A wise elf named Buddy once said “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” (Source). Around here, we have at least two radio stations which started playing Christmas music 24/7 at the beginning of November. Wherever you are, try to find a station that is playing your favorite holiday music all day long. A few of my favorite Christmas songs are “Walking in a Winter Wonderland”, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, and “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree”. What are a few of your favorite songs? Let me know! Turn on your favorite and get to singing (and maybe dancing too!) 🙂

Focus on the Reason for the Season

A good scripture reading plan can help to get you into the Spirit of Christmas. This year, I have decided to do a Christmas 2019 Bible Reading Challenge where I will go live on Facebook every day December 1 thru December 24 to read some verses of the Christmas story so if you haven’t already, make sure you follow my Facebook page to keep up with each video. If you fill out my sign-up form (located on my homepage on the right hand side) you can get free printable journal pages (made with love by yours truly) which can be used to write down your thoughts related to each passage. You don’t have to join my scripture reading challenge, but try to pick out a scripture reading plan and start it now so by the time Christmas arrives, you will remember the real reason we have to celebrate.

Conclusion

Sometimes it can be difficult to get into the spirit of Christmas but that’s alright because there are plenty of things we can still do to celebrate. What are some of your favorite ways to get into the Christmas Spirit? Let me know in the comments below! Have a favorite Christmas movie? I’d love to hear about it. I’m always looking for a good Christmas movie to watch this time of year. Have a favorite song? Share it with me! I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas.

  1. “help someone else” and “help yourself” you can’t get more solid advice than that! I like your comment about the Hallmark movies. I love them, but they are not realistic and it is important to keep that in perspective. I enjoy the old classics like Holiday Inn and Miracle on 34th St 🙂
