It’s a new year and like many of you, I have set some goals for 2020. If you haven’t set your goals yet then you need to read my post on how to set biblical goals.
My problem isn’t setting goals, it is procrastinating so if I am going to accomplish my goals this year, I need to beat procrastination. If you find that you are in the same boat as me, here is some good news! I have found 4 easy ways to beat procrastination and I cannot wait to share them with all of you!
How to Beat Procrastination in 4 Easy Steps
- Understand Your Why
Once your goals are set, it is important to understand why you want to achieve these particular goals. If you can remember why you started working on these goals, you will begin to develop ambition.
What is ambition? It is a desire to reach a particular end (source). Understand why you want to accomplish these goals then cultivate your desire to succeed.
2. Start Small
As a therapist, I break down each goal on a treatment plan into objectives. This is best practice because breaking a goal down into actionable steps makes it easier to accomplish.
If you have several goals, take some time to break them down into small, easy steps. Start small and I can guarantee you will see big success.
3. Use the Eisenhower Matrix
The Eisenhower Matrix is a specific method that helps you learn how to prioritize your tasks from those that are urgent and need to be done today to those that are less urgent and can be done later.
If you are a visual learner, here is a great video that explains how to use this particular method.
4. Use the Promodoro Technique
I recently learned about this technique and to me this idea is incredible and super easy.
If you follow this technique, you work on one task for 25 minutes, set a timer, and work on the task until the timer rings.
Once the timer rings, take a five minute break and then repeat the cycle four times.
Once you’ve completed the cycle 4 times, take a 15 minute break.
If you are a visual learner, here is a video on the promodoro technique. It is 5 minutes long which I feel is a tad bit lengthy but it is very informative.
Here is a great timer to help you utilize this method.
Conclusion
Now that you know the secret to accomplishing your goals, it is time to get to work.
