Ways to Show Love to Others Without Giving Gifts

Cook For Them

Do you know your friend or loved ones favorite foods? Why don’t you take some time to cook their favorite meal for them. If you want to make it extra special, you can invite them to join you. You can make a date night out of it.

Write them a heart felt note

If your friend or loved one’s love language is words of affirmation, this gift will mean more to them than you will ever know. Write a note from your heart on a piece of paper and give it to your friend or loved one. If you want to make it extra special, slip it into their lunch box. You can also add it to a mirror or their fridge, or find another secret, special way to share it.

Play a game with them

Is your friend or loved one into playing games? Do they have a favorite board game or video game that they can’t stop talking about? Why don’t you offer to sit down and play their favorite game with them.

No need to make it into a stressful competition, just play with them and keep it fun!

Need a game idea, Sonic 2 is one of my favorite two player video games and Monopoly Empire is one of my favorite board games.

Take them on a picnic outside

We all have to eat but you can make it extra special for your friend/loved one when you turn the meal into a picnic. You can then have that be followed by a nature walk. You can plan the day so that after the meal and a nice walk with each other, you can watch the sunset. Think of the beautiful pictures you can make. Not only that, your loved one will have memories they can hold onto in the years to come.

Give them a “gift” that makes you think of them

Is there a certain rock, seashell, flower, or other unique item found in nature that makes you think of your friend/loved one. Make sure that you give them that item. Want to make it extra special, write them a note explaining what about this particular item reminded you of them.

Do you sing or play an instrument? Create a song and dedicate it to them. Want to make it extra special? You can record the song on a CD for them to keep for years to come.

Mail your friend/loved one a card. Instead of a card you bought at the store, take scrap paper, stickers, random items you have lying around the house and create a unique card and send it to them. Don’t have the money to pay for postage, you can just place it in their mailbox or leave it on their porch for them to find later.

Give Them a Hug

This one is a great idea if your friend/loved one’s love language is physical touch. Give your friend/loved one a long hug to show them just how much you care.
