A Man Who Purposed in His Heart

Daniel 1:8 (NKJV)
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with a portion of the king's delicacies,
nor with the wine which he drank;
therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself.

I’m going to put this into context.  The king had chosen some of the smartest, most handsome men in the hopes that he could make them even better.  The king wanted them to be proof of how great he was and how great Babylon was.  Daniel was one of the few elite young men to be chosen.

The Purpose in His Heart

The young men were offered food from the king’s table and the best wine that the king had to offer.  Anything that a young man could dream of was offered to Daniel and his friends.  The king was not aware Daniel had committed to not eating or drinking anything that was bad for him.  Daniel’s intent was to use his body to bring honor and glory to God.  Daniel had a purpose in his heart not to give into temptation no matter what that meant sacrificing.

Purpose in Your Heart

As a blogger, there are times that I purpose in my heart to achieve one of my small goals. For instance, maybe I plan to get 30 new followers by the end of the month. If I stop writing, It will be difficult to do that.  If I don’t comment to posts on Facebook, or engage my readers, I could be missing out on big opportunities. It is important that even when the motivation for blogging can be hard to find, I think of why I started doing this and strive to write, comment, and engage people.

As a Christian, there are times when like Ezra, I purpose in my heart to discover the Lord’s direction for my life and to follow it only (see Ezra 7:10).  Let me tell you, when I purpose in my heart to seek the Lord and to draw closer to him, it never fails that I will face my biggest battles in my mind, and also with my relationships with others.  There is also a big fight for my time.  The devil will use every distraction he can find to keep me from doing what I intend to.  I must keep reading the word, praying, and attending church, remembering that as a result of my commitment, God will make any sacrifices worth it.

Conclusion

So what about you, friend? is there something you feel led to do? what about a goal you purposed in your heart to achieve that you’ve lost motivation for or have forgotten about? Is there something you keep putting on the backburner that you tell yourself you will accomplish “one day, but not now” Friend, today is the day.  There is no better time than the present to set a goal, purpose in your heart to complete it, and take steps to make it happen.

The Bible says that if someone doubts, they are like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind, double-minded, and unstable in all that they do (see James 1:6-8).  Once you know what it is you need to do, once you purpose in your heart to do it and take steps to achieve it, then you must not doubt that you will be successful.

Don’t be double-minded believing one minute that you can and the next that all of your hard work is nothing but a failure.  Do not be unstable but stand firm knowing that you are doing amazing things.  There is only one of  you in the world.  You have something to share that no one else will ever have.  Don’t give up on your purpose, goal, dream.  Press on and cross the finish line.

YOU ARE AMAZING! Now, purpose in your heart to show the world!

P.S. Please feel free to comment below with something have purposed in your heart to do.

Sharing is caring!

  3. Good read! It’s a good reminder that if you feel inspired to do something, you wouldn’t have felt the nudge to do so if you weren’t going to be successful at some point.

  4. I first thought it’s an art cover of a book. Maybe it’s a coincidental sign? A sign you need to write your very own book. That’s a purpose, to become a published author 😉
